On 30 June 1815 Napoleon’s defeated army crossed the Somme at Saint-Leu on its retreat from Waterloo; local tradition has it that one soldier drowned while attempting to drink from a public fountain.
The town’s church dates from the 15 t h century and contains a number of Gothic features as well as a monument to those who died fighting for France during World War I (1914–18). There is also an active market held every Tuesday morning which sells fresh produce brought in from local farms.”
